FROM THE CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Hi, I'm Carrie Armstrong, Creative Director, Art Coach and founder of Wheel & Easel Art Space.

I've finally turned dreams into reality with the opening of Easel & Wheel, and am so excited to share my vision! After years as a professional artist (ClayLab Detroit), student and teacher, I'm returning to Royal Oak to enhance my favorite city with unique art ed experiences in my own program. I feel that Easel & Wheel sets itself apart from industrial-style public art and craft studios.

A former hair salon, its ghost remains with a worn posh aesthetic unexpected in an art classroom. It's a funky spot that breeds that creative mood, the dopamine that kicks in when it feels right. It's for adults to vibe on, so it doesn't have to maintain a Chuck E. Cheese environment. It's an experience, a place to hang out, learn about art in an entertaining way... and make awesome, killer things you'll be proud of. Ceramics, drawing, painting, whatever finds you while you find your match.

My credentials:

  • College for Creative Studies, Crafts degree in Ceramics & a minor in Fine Art/Illustration.

  • University of Florida, Masters of Art Education with Adult Community Ed concentration

  • Featured artist

    • Artist-in-residence, University Liggett School (Grosse Pointe)

    • Pewabic Pottery in Detroit 20+ years

    • American Museum of Ceramic Art

    • Architects (to include JPRA, Ron Rea)

    • CA Muer Corporation (Big Fish restaurants)

    • Meat Magazine, San Francisco

    • Commercial businesses, private art collections

  • Community art practice

    • College for Creative Studies

    • Pewabic Pottery community outreach

    • ClayLab Detroit Studio art classes for children and adults

Personally, I'm a wisecracking GenX who is also a humongous Care Bear and enjoys leaving people feeling supported and uplifted. I have a dark sense of humor and a cheerful outlook. I like every kind of music out there, miss my job at the record store and enjoy turning people on to new music. I make a lot of art and seem to be very helpful with helping people find their creative sweet spot.

We're ready to do this, let's gooooo :)

Let us help you to find new and exciting creative aspects of yourself and have a blast! Welcome! -C
